A work in progress

While I usually love apartment living, I often miss living in a house.  It’s not because of the space (I’d say 900 square feet is more than enough space for 2 people.)  It’s because of my connection to the land.  Even if it’s just walking through the back yard on my way to work, I don’t have to share that land with anyone other than my family.  It truly is a great feeling.

It’s this desire to connect to things that are growing that I have started my latest project.  Balcony gardening.  I’ve spent considerable time reading about it and I decided it was time to start my own little balcony garden.  I ordered 5 strawberry plants, a blueberry bush (all bred to grown in containers) and some flowers (to dress up the place.)  Finally yesterday, my plants arrived!  I was so excited to plant them :D.  After I ran out of potting soil, I made a quick run to the local garden center to buy more soil.  I couldn’t resist also buying some herbs while I was there.

This blog entry is a photo homage to the beginnings of my attempts at balcony gardening.

Lemon Tree - started about a year and a half ago. I know it doesn't look like much, but it's come a long way.

New strawberry plants! Hopefully they yield some strawberries before too long.

Blueberries. Maybe it's all the green, but I have a lot of hope for this one!

Wall of plants. The biggest things are basil, cilantro, and mint. Lettuce and Spinach with be growing out of the top pockets. Flowers will grow from the (seemingly) empty pockets.

Wish me luck in my gardening attempts!  It’s certainly going to be a fun adventure.
