While I usually love apartment living, I often miss living in a house. It’s not because of the space (I’d say 900 square feet is more than enough space for 2 people.) It’s because of my connection to the land. Even if it’s just walking through the back yard on my way to work, I don’t have to share that land with anyone other than my family. It truly is a great feeling.
It’s this desire to connect to things that are growing that I have started my latest project. Balcony gardening. I’ve spent considerable time reading about it and I decided it was time to start my own little balcony garden. I ordered 5 strawberry plants, a blueberry bush (all bred to grown in containers) and some flowers (to dress up the place.) Finally yesterday, my plants arrived! I was so excited to plant them . After I ran out of potting soil, I made a quick run to the local garden center to buy more soil. I couldn’t resist also buying some herbs while I was there.
This blog entry is a photo homage to the beginnings of my attempts at balcony gardening.
Wish me luck in my gardening attempts! It’s certainly going to be a fun adventure.
